      01. Research on commonweal of death education among teenagers

The purpose of this paper is to provide those around me with a more objective and nuanced understanding of death education, challenging conventional perspectives on the topic. I reached out to three publishers, but all rejected the paper—not due to its quality, but because death is a sensitive subject in China, and any related topics are difficult to publish.

I didn’t get discouraged, though. To pursue the original proposal of this paper, I shared an excerpt on our social media platform to introduce my project. Additionally, Ms. Yang, who guided me in writing this article, and I are collaborating to use it as the foundation for designing an future elective course at our school.

        02. Dance-based life/death education improves cognitive functions, self-esteem and depression in Chinese high school student

To discover more effective educational methods for death education, I collaborated with Professor Liu Kun at Yale to design the research methods and scales. We are currently in the process of developing the study, and we expect to complete the research within a year.

        03. Effectiveness and Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of Influenza Vaccination Among the Adolescents in the United States

This research is part of the Yuanpei Young Scholar Academic Research Program on public health and marks my first experience completing a study with a strict process and structure. During the two-month program, I not only learned how to analyze and compare the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of different strategies but also gained foundational skills in using R Studio for data analysis.

          04. Popular Medical Video Bloggers’ Expression and Dissemination of Doctor-Patient Relationships – A Case Study of BiliBili Platform

Since my biology teacher, Ms. Yang, was a doctor and worked in a hospital for about 8 years, I always heard from her some stories in the hospital – some tense, some warm, some sorrowful, and some inspiring. However, all of them have some relation to doctor-patient relationships. To explore my interests in the current situation of the doctor-patient relationship, I started doing group work with my schoolmates. We focus on the social platform and how doctors or patients share their opinions and stories in hospitals, and how these reflect the characteristics and problems of doctor-patient relationships in China.

            05. Overdose of Dextromethorphan of Adolescents and the Possible Solutions from a Society Perspective

This is the final essay of my elective course, Introduction to Neuroscience, in the first semester in Grade 11. I was hesitant to choose the topics at first. Then, I reconnected with one of my friends in primary school and was inspired to delve deeper. To my surprise, she has suffered from DXM drug addiction since she got depression, but she was optimistic and outgoing in my memory. Therefore, I started to research the overdose of DXM among teenagers and found that it is not an individual problem.

Searching from news and science websites, I acknowledged the current situation, adverse effects, and possible solutions to overdoes of DXM and completed my research. Using the knowledge acquired from writing this essay, I continuously get in touch with my friend and communicate with her. I was glad to see that she is improving and gradually reducing her dependency on DXM.

            01.Death Education Project

The idea of establishing a death education project begins with a conversation with my middle school teacher. She told me about a vicious accident that happened during the mid-term exam. Since a boy was irritated by one girl’s act of throwing papers at him, he hurt a girl with the axe he used for club activity. The injury is serious and the blood spattered on the desks. However, this is not the most horrible thing. When my teacher asked them whether this event influenced them, they all said “no”, even proudly. I was shocked by their indifference when the life of their classmates was threatened. On the way back home, I thought and found that the lack of death education among teenagers leads to their coldness to life.

Death education, as a part and the first step of life education, is crucial and cannot be omitted. However, although most Chinese schools contain life education lectures, they only focus on inculcating superficial ideas of why life is good to live instead of in-depth discussions on why life is good to live and the opposite of life – death. Only talking about opinions is not convincing and effective, so I have the determination to fill the gap in death education among teenagers in China.

I started by designing a survey about “Have you ever written a letter for your death” and recruited members for my project at the same time. Publishing it with great excitement and receiving 121 answers from people of different ages and regions, my members and I categorized and analyzed those answers and held a workshop about it in our school. While we giving presentations to different classes, our group became larger. After the first round of survey sharing, we contained 30 members from different high schools, and some of them are from other countries such as Germany and America.

Besides surveying and sharing, we also held classes in the community bookstore for children. Cooperating with the Food club, we go to the community bookstore at Chinese traditional festivals to make traditional food and tell stories about life and death with children. For example, on the Dragon Boat Festival, we talked about the stories and spirits of Quyuan, who is a great poet who related to this festival and made Zongzi with children.

To share our courses and yell for attention on death education, we use social platforms to spread our recording workshops and classes. Besides, I also went to the Jiayin psychological consultancy organization and interviewed about the current situation of mental issues among teenagers.

I also initiated the life and death art exhibition at our school. Through the changing strokes of calligraphy, dreamy lines and colors of painting, and meaningful symbols in photography works, we explore our own definitions of and opinions on life and death. By the silent artworks, our thoughts collide and exchange. I also explore the way for myself to convey perspectives on life and death through calligraphy and painting works. Moreover, the exhibition also includes research about death culture all over the world, which was completed by my members and me. This research contains an overview of the relationship between society’s development and opinion on death, the specific customs and festivals related to death, and the new technology related to death. The art exhibition is going to be held on October 14th.

            02.School Magazine Infinity

I have been working for the school magazine Infinity for two years. Writing creative workpieces and formal reports is an enjoyable process for me. During the first year, I worked on the topic selection and editing process of the Q&A block of the official account and the reviewing reports for school events such as movie festivals and singing and dancing carnivals.

In the second year in the school magazine, I got a new position – the president of the edition department, which is responsible for assigning and supervising works related to topic selection, interviewing, editing, and reviewing.

In my tenure, we published volume 15 of our school magazine which is also the thickest magazine we have ever had, and I participated throughout the making process.

During the summary meeting for volume 15, we also experienced a discussion on whether or not we should preserve the creative writing part of our school magazine, the tip of the pen. This is my favorite part of Infinity, and my first essay written for Infinity was posted on this part. Others thought that this part should be deleted since they wanted to make the school magazine more formal, including only big events and campus news. I decided to preservethis part due to the fact that the school magazine should also be a place for students to communicate their experiences and ideas. Now, I am glad to see that the tip of the pen has become one of the most popular parts of Infinity.

            03.Pressure-releasing Concert

I worked in the publicity department for the pressure-releasing concert and also as a performer.

When the concert was only a thought in my friend’s mind, she was not confident on whether or not she had that time for conducting a music concert that is good enough. Since I am a fan of music concerts, I encouraged her and explained to her the basic requirements and process of holding a music concert. Facilitated her with the preparation works, and we came out with the first draft of the pressure-releasing concert. With my encouragement and our determination, she gained her confidence, and the pressure-releasing concert became true. Then, I joined the publicity department later. I made the recruiting poster and was responsible for the editing and reviewing works for the compere script and articles on the official account.
